Whenever I get near the brooder, my chicks freak out. Maybe it's because the first couple of days of having them I picked them up so much and so did others. They do calm down a but after awhile, but did I traumatize my chicks?

! Pleased you joined us! No, you didn't traumatize them - or if you did, it's just temporary - just be patient, move slowly, and talk softly - they'll come around. Good luck to you!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

It is natural for them to be concerned about things that appear suddenly above them. Continue to handle them frequently, and they will get used to you. I always speak to the birds before I approach their brooder.

Welcome! I always make the same call to the chicks and have treats for them. Now they come running!
