Getting our chickies today!

Our first run at getting chickens!

Daughter and I can't wait!! We have our choice of rhode island reds, barred rocks, Americaunas (sp?), and Buff Orpingtons. I definitely want some RIR, but not sure if I should get any of the others.

We live in PA...., want them mostly for eggs, would like them to have a friendly temperment (with 3 year old daughter around), may use them for meat, but not sure yet, I don't know if we'll be able to do it.....)

Any suggestions?

My EE's are very friendly and your daughter might really like the pretty colored eggs they lay.

Get a few of each you will have nice mix of egg colors your daughter will love that.

I vote Buff Orpingtons but that is what I have so I'm biased. I also say if you get a couple of each then you will have a nice variety and different color eggs.

get a couple of each! 4-6 chicks is a nice number to start with.

Sooooo sad!!! We went in to the feed store and they had just gotten them in yesterday and they were already sold out of everything except the EE's!!! They said it is the fastest they have ever sold out... I didn't get any at all! Found out the EE's were straight run and not pullets and didn't want to risk getting a roo. We just wanted to stick with the girls.

I was soooo looking forward to get them tonight!

Next stop - TSC on Monday. Hopefully they won't sell out so quickly! I am pretty sure they get a lot more in than this small feed store did.

Trying to stay positive - Monday's not all that far away, just hard when you get your hopes up!
