All same age ten weeks old have been together from chick age.All a sudden the leghorns and isas have been pecking on the araucanas mostly the sameone the one pecked on the most is starting to stay away from all others.Whats going on? I know about pecking order ,but come on she gets it by now Im sure.Input please I feel bad for her she just hangs by herself now.

I have a similar problem with my chickens...
one of my cochin rooster is pecking on a small sultan...

no one has voiced their thoughts but hope they
will answer you so I too will know what to do..;.
right now I have her in a large cage with a young
duck......she seems happy but I don't want her to
be in a cage all the time....

good luck and I will watch to see if anyone answers...

I have 9 14+ wk old pullets of different breeds. The one EE ("Ameraucana") is the lowest on the pecking order because she never fights back. I just make sure she has access to the food and water and plenty of room to get away from the more aggressive pullets. There are a few of the higher ranking girls that she hangs with, and they have formed a sort of clique, but two of the lower ranking ones still go after her occasionally. As long as there's no blood or serious feather plucking, they are probably best left to work it out themselves.

Are your araucanas purebred with the large cheek feathers poking out? I ask because I have read of Polish getting picked on due to their crests and thought you could be seeing something similar. Is the target the odd facial feathers? You may want to watch for this.

I have noticed that the pecking order can change as they mature. My Buff Orp started being a bully recently, really throwing her weight around, until the New Hampshire (one week younger and lower in rank) got fed up, grabbed the Orp, and relieved her of a few feathers! The Orp quickly reverted to her usual calm demeanor, and order was restored.

Ain't chicken psychology fun?

Yes purebred big cheek feathers thats what I thought they were going after and may be. She now just stays away from others unless its her sista's( other araucanas) Thanks maybe they can work it out. I just hope I dont see blood. My dad had laying hens when I was a kid and I've seen what happens when they get a taste of that.. NOT..good.
