I live in Washington State it usually never get cold enough to freeze here, but the nights get pretty chilly, my question is i have 7 Reds and I have them in a big kennel my husband made for his hunting dogs. All four sides are open, of course I am going to cover it completely this winter with a large tarp, but is that going to be enough for them to stay warm? Please give me some suggestions.

Thank you Ewaugaman

It helps if you put a fish tank heater in their water dish to keep it from freezing

Ventilation is more important than warmth, so don't completely cover it with the tarp.
As long as they are dry and out of the wind, they will be fine.

I would at least close in the side of the area that faces the prevailing winds.

Thank you so much I will do that, and I will leave one side of their coop open, the side that does not get any wind. Very helpful to me, thank you so much

I think it you cover the top and just cover one side it'd be best. Ventilation is very important. Also-a helpful tip if you don't do the heated waterer is to get multiple water dishes and switch it out AM and PM. I live in Washington as well and it's only a few weeks here and there that freezing is a problem in Western Washington.
