Found a farm that sells swedish black hen chicks. Wont have an order until spring ish. My friend is also buying chicks so it will be a shared shipping.
I am only getting three since they are so expensive(hoping for a girl). They do have culls i found out and will be getting any that hatch at the same time. culls are just chicks with some lack of pigment for $5 each. figured they would work for a backyard flock with someone wanting darker birds or those that are crossing birds. anyways super excited and worried i spent way to much on chicks.

i CURRENTLY HAVE silverudd's blue and a couple of cream legbar hens. The cream legbars are getting older and my youngest silverudd's are turning two, so figured i should get a few more. Im hoping the swedish black hens are more tame then the ayam cemani and lay better. Dont mind a broody either. my two roos are homozygus so at least if i end up crossing they resulting girls would lay a blue/green egg.

I ordered two svarthona hatching eggs too, since they are so expensive I only got two. One isn’t developing so I discarded today. So now I have only ONE and am also hoping for a hen. So my eggs are in only one basket lol!!!

i bought chicks, i have very bad hatch rate with just normal eggs. Trying to find a good incubator and thinking about the rcom

Where did you find hatching eggs? I have six hens and one rooster but he is about eight years old. My hens go broody but I need eggs to hopefully hatch a rooster. My rooster has been amazing throughout the years but he is now a house rooster and not doing well.

Breezy bird farms in Manitoba, she ships Canada wide, but not outside Canada.

Candled tonight, day 17. And my one remaining svart hona egg still looks good so 🤞

My svart hona egg hatched yesterday! We have a healthy chick! Now the wait is on to see if it’s a hen or roo. Anyone with experience with these chicks, when could you tell? What did you watch for? I heard the hens tend to have quite small combs, was that the best indicator?

exciting! do you have a photo?
Sorry she was still in the incubator when I saw this message and then I forgot! The last pic is at day or so old and the other two are today. Can you sex svart honas by their wings? I get strong hen vibes from her but I wonder if that’s just wishful thinking lol.

Her wing feathers are still just coming in, it’s the white towel showing in between her feathers.

I have some chicks from Greenfire farms, I was lucky enough to get them on sale when they weren't able to ship out chicks one week (local pickup). I've got 8 of them, and I noticed last night that one has silkied feathers, they said it's a recessive gene the breed can carry
