We are working on getting a roof over the biggest open part of the chicken run. Due to some other issues we only have about a week to get this done. Not sure if we will want to do the rest of the run next Spring but this is going to have to do for now.
So far, rafters are up, secured with screws and hurricane clips. Purlins are almost done and polycarbonate panels will be secured to those. Ignore any unstained wood stuff---that's temporary.
Any open areas will be covered with hardware cloth (top of the run already has hardware cloth but adding more to keep critters out).
Thought I'd share:

Been waiting to see this...and it looks as fantastic as I thought it would!!

Thanks---we simplified the process a bit due to a decision not to be so insanely anal about things. Skipped the birds' mouth technique due to time constraints and some inconsistencies in spans that would have had us being ridiculously meticulous and having every rafter being a custom job. We did add extra joists in the roof area for strength---24" OC.
Doing it this way we could build the rafters pretty quickly and uniformly and a bit over or under the span length won't make any difference.
The framing is done. Next is putting up the closure strips and drilling the pilot holes in the polycarbonate panels. I think we'll be done before the first snowfall.
Pouring rain out today---break time!

Yeah, you're getting the storm we had last night.
Good calls on the simplification.
Too bad you can't cover the whole thing now,
since you've got the system down...
......but I understand.
I'm betting this winter will convince you to cover the whole thing come spring.

Cost issues came into play too. It all adds up pretty quickly, even with DH's HD vet's discount. But yeah, definitely in my dreams.
Side note---I hope everyone here who is a veteran knows about the 10% discount they can get at Lowe's and Home Depot. That's on everything from appliances, kitchen cabinets, sheds, etc etc etc. EVERYTHING.
I know we have saved a small fortune using that discount!
