Hi, my neighbor breeds their Mountain Bernese dogs and one of the puppies passed away last night. Two others are in the hospital and the vet said it could possibly be giardia. Now we have seven ducks, 1 Rouen, 1 Pekin, and 5 Mallards. A couple of them seem to have black poop but they aren't showing any signs of sickness. Could the ducks have given the puppies giardia? Also are the ducks at risk for the disease? Thanks in advance!

@casportpony would be the best for this problem. I've had giardia (its awful) and the doctors said I probably got it from bad water. So..........? Lets see was Casportpony says.

There is a Giardia thread for chickens:

I haven't read through, but if there is any chance that your Duckies have contracted those parasites, i would start a prophylactic treatment asap. - Assuming that the medication is not equally threatening to the ducks.
