I’ve been under a boil water advisory for a week. I’m wearing myself out with boiling water. Today I was buying feed and saw a sign for a product (which was out of stock) stating it would sanitize the drinking water for your flock.

So my question is, what is my risk of my flock actually getting giardia?

And is there a product that can be used to treat water safely for giardia so I can stop boiling so much water?

Geez!
Nasty stuff, dealt with it in dogs, and a friend had it once.
Quick google says yes birds can get some forms of giardia.
Is this in a municipal water system?

Yes. It is the worst quality drinking water I’ve ever had. Sometimes is so brown it looks like tea. Other times it’s crystal clear, and we’ve had several boil water advisories.

Someone just told me the the giardia cysts are large enough to be filtered out by a 5 micron filter attached to a garden hose so I’m going to look into that since I’ve wanted to filter my chickens water for a long time I just didn’t know hose attachments were a thing
