Hello all,
I have a single young bantam d'uccle rooster and was looking to get him a mottled cochrin hen and a mille de fleur hen. Being totally new to chickens, I am wondering if it even possible to find specific breeds at this time of year and how to get them here safely (despite the cold). How does this work? Also, is there a way to buy hens specifically? I only want a small flock and already have a lonely rooster :)

Many large hatcheries offer started pullets. Check out Meyer hatchery for examples.

To get older pullets/hens of specific breeds you will need to find a breeder or place that sells these types.

check out NPIP website, search by state. Multi page listings will come up with addresses of breeders/hatcheries that are NPIP. On the left side of the website they list stock codes. All bantam codes start with “W”. Codes for your interests are: mottled Cochin “W164”, Mille fleur either “W570” or “W725”. But check the codes bc many Cochin codes. Then use the “Find” function in the state document to easily find the codes you are interested in. It may be possible to find what you are looking for at this time. Since NPIP costs money and requires inspection, they may advertise their birds via fb using a farm page (can’t sell animals on fb marketplace), or possibly CL.
Good luck.

Thanks for your detailed reply! I will try this!
