Hey all! Welcome to my thread! Just a warning, I don't have really any pictures to share but still I think a lot of great information about how I raise my chickens. 😁

For starters, my family and I have raised a total of 187 standard laying birds, 32 meat birds, and 4 ducks in our 6 years of chicken keeping. I am either owning now or have raised almost every breed/mix you could think of. I have added my information and experience with all of the breeds and mixes I have owned, maybe you'll enjoy reading them. If you have a different experience with these breeds or mixes, please tell me about it, and maybe I'll give the breed another shot someday. πŸ’•

I live in mountainous farm country in Pennsylvania so we have hot summers and pretty cold winters - so I have put some tips for raising chickens in this type of weather. 😊 In fact as I'm typing this up it's 107 degrees outside! πŸ₯΅

Also, for my coop/run set up I have four large chicken coops, made from scrap wood and the latest that we built in 2021 from a 10x10 old garden shed someone was selling on Facebook. My run is about 1/2 acre large. I find it's plenty of space to roam for my 125 chickens. For fencing we use hard wire fencing that could keep buffalo in. Not really sure what it's called but I know it's from Home Depot. 😁

I also added tips about eggs - like how I fix the problem of hens laying soft shelled eggs or even super hard shells. Also info about what kinds of foods that chickens eat make the egg yolks turn orange/red in color and also surprisingly what your chickens can eat that will affect the flavor of your egg.

There's also my tips about how to tell if your younger chick is a male or female - since I see a lot of those threads, as well as hatching tips, good treats to give your chickens, peck block recipes, feed information, rooster information, and other random info. If you have a question about what I do for a curtain topic, please ask and I'll be very happy to answer.

Information is in the post below this one. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’•
