I have a relatively young flock of 16 chickens. There are four distinct groups: three older hens, three four-month olds, six three-month olds, and the final group of four are Ameraucanas which I hatched from eggs in my classroom. They are also three months months old. Of that final group, three of those four are Roos. I am in the process of rehoming the Roos because two of them are becoming rather aggressive, and I'm trying to be a conscientious neighbor. However, this group is pretty tight knit. Will the lone female be able to assimilate into the other groups? Or would you recommend keeping one of the Roos? Any input you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I might hold onto a rooster as long as possible, unless you see the one pullet hanging with the other birds. You could remove the roosters before rehoming them for a bit and see how she does. If it doesn't go well you still got the roosters to pick one for her for company.

Thank you for your reply. I'll give that a try tomorrow!

Are they all living together or are they separated?

They are all together as they have a large area to free range. They just hang out during the day in their different groups. The 10 youngest are in the same coop at night.

If they are well integrated and getting along,
you could remove the boys from this group,
all the girls will be glad of it.....
....especially if you wait until the boys start trying to mount them.

Oh great! That puts my mind at ease! Yes that's already happening with the boys! Thank you so much!
