Also, Murray McMurray has an excellent "chick selector" tool at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/chick_selector.html to help you determine which breeds are best for you. Check out the links Michael O'Shay gave you to help figure out what breed works for you. Not every breed of chicken will be suitable for your needs; some can be hard to find, some are very expensive, some will not tolerate your climate, etc. If you want dependable egg layers that are hearty as well, check out the dual purpose chickens such as Wyandottes, Black Australorps, and Barred Rocks (just to name a few).
