what happens if this isn't removed? Do you get really sick? Does it ruin the meat.

We haven't done this, just curious.

i think it makes the meat greasy/oily and gives it a bad taste.

if the preen gland isn't removed there will be a taste to the meat, but you will not get sick from eating the meat.
