I am wondering about what I feed my chicks, if it will affect those who are on gluten free diets. I have a friend who is totally gluten free, and I would like to provide her with eggs or products made with the eggs, but I want to be careful as to what to feed the chicks. Anyone else have this question or answers to the question I am asking?
Note: I don't know what category in the forums to put this post in.

Gluten is not stored in protein...this really is a fad. Gluten is a protein in itself but not in the sense your wondering about. Meat and dairy are all Gluten free. The 1 % or less of the population that can't digest it must eat wheat products directly for it to affect them negatively.

I was just curious because so many people are gluten free and want to eat everything as gluten free as possible. I have a friend who can't even eat blue cheese because when it is fermenting, it uses some kind of wheat product to ferment with. I would have never have thought of that. I see a lot of people giving bread to their chickens and just wondered if that would affect the gluten content in the eggs. Thanks for the insights and information on this.

My spouse and father-in-law both have Celiacs disease. Any gluten, even a crumb from my wheat bread, that find its way into either of their mouths will have them 'down for the count' for 24 hours to 3 days. (Just ask anyone w Celiacs what happens- it is not fun and is debilitating.) They both eat my chickens' eggs and meat with no problems whatsoever. A prime component of my chickens' diet is wheat- so, at least for my spouse and FIL, the chickens' diet does not affect them.
