Gnats

Does anyone have advice about gnats flying around my boys' heads? They keep shaking their heads and scratching. I feel sorry for them, but I'm afraid of spraying the yard with poison. I've heard gnats don't like shade, but the boys stay in the shade a lot and are still bothered. I appreciate any advice.

It's that time of year.
If you have power to the pen put a fan in there and turn it on med to high, it will help keep them off the birds.
