New to the community, anxious to learn.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We bought chickens for the first time this year. We bought four in March, and then another four in April. There were three in the middle there, but they didn't make it for various reasons.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

8.

(3) What breeds do you have?

We have:
1. Senorita Dottie - Columbian Wyandotte
2. Buffy the Wormslayer - Buff Orpington
3. Shakespeare - Barred Rock
4. Susan Dey - Partridge Rock
5. Rhoda - Rhode Island Red
6. Petunia - Easter Egger (probably not actual Aracauna)
7. Violet - Easter Egger (probably Aracauna)
8. Noah - Easter Egger (and unexpectedly male)

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Googling for information.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Gardening, Homebrewing, Cheesemaking, Cooking, Baking, we are involved in the Maker movement.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We bought a few acres in rural Kansas, moving from an urban area. We are trying to be more self-sufficient. It is just me and my husband. And our three cats - Cleo (who is my husband's cat), Ari (who is my cat), and Demeter (who is Ari's cat). I write training from home for a non-profit, and started a blog, Accidental Homesteader.

...and we got our first egg (that we know of) this morning, based on a tip from the site! Kept them in their coop for a good part of the morning, instead of letting them out when we get up!
