Goat Talk. What's the best kind of fence?

if it is a big goat get a 6ft high red brand field fence if its pygmy/nigerian get a 4-5ft red brand field fence people say their pygmy/nigis get out of a 4 ft fence but not mine I have 4 ft high cow/horse 4x4 hole field fence with 2ft chicken wire at the bottom for the baby chicks and ducks, goats, etc.

I agree with chic-n-farmer ...if it wont hold water it wont hold a goat for long...basically you get what you can afford and make due with it. I personally use cattle panels and some chicken wire at the bottom to keep babies in...The stronger the better...

I use cattle panels and line it with smaller holed wire to keep babies in and goats from sticking their heads thru and getting stuck(some of mine have horns)

Having a good sturdy, high fence is obviously very important with most goats.

However, having a goat companion and toys for them to play on/around is also very important. A happy goat with things to do is far less likely to 'want' to get out and therefore isn't as likely to even try.

We have 4ft livestock fencing for our goats with 4"x4" spaces. The only time I had an issue with any of them escaping is when we had 1 lonely goat. Since we got the other goats we've had no issues. I think a lot of times goat just get bored. I have a ton of toys that we've built for them to play on and I spend a lot of time with them because I enjoy them.
