Going from free range to penned up for a while. Feed help?

We moved in May to a new house with more land. Problem was that the fencing is incomplete around the chicken pens. My March 2014 chickens are not happy with the change. They are losing a little weight. What can I do to help them out until the fences are finished?

I give them their layer feed, veggie scraps and grass clippings. Do I need to add a protein source since they can't chase bugs?

You might try raising mealworms as a protein source.

You may also try a little crack corn. But feed it on the floor so they need to work for it.Busy mind and body happy hens.
