We've been lucky enough to have an inexpensive, mainly recycled material coop since 2008. Some of you may have seen it in the coop pages. Recently my site hosting the pictures was shut down, so I have to re-load the old photos and these new ones.

My husband and I had a tractor coop that was 4'x8' and we've turned that into a permanent coop for my new chickens, the Birchen Japanese Bantams... I have some Black and White Japanese Bantams on the way here shortly too that will move in there. It has been adding onto the "Going Green" Silkie coop creating an "L" shape chicken coop area, which keeping everyone in their own area. We also extended the run on the original coop to add on another 4' x 4' of space with a large door on top so I could move the waterer out of the coop, and into the run.

Again, some new, but mainly reclaimed material. Costs of upgrading the old tractor coop, and the extension of the run.... $27! Everything else we had, or were given or traded to have.

We're going to add a sliding door to the silkie coop, its cut out and ready, we just need string and a pully. That was when I have a broody I can put her seperately in the new run in a kennel to have the other chickens leave her and her eggs alone. Right now all the silkies climb on top of each other in the nesting boxes and are messing up my hatch rates!
