I am going to trade some of my many rtoosters for a cochin rooster and some hens of my choice.. The thing is, I have to pick out the pullets myself.. What is there to look for in a pullet, so I will know that I didnt get ahold of a rooster?

Anyone? I would really like to know some information before I go to bed tonight. Thanks,

Big Dave Cash

Here is a 3 month old pair. You can easily tell the roo is on the right.

Look at the neck & saddle feathers on the blue rooster. See how pointed they are. At 4 months old, they should be easy to see. Just look at the combs, and check for the hackle & saddle feathers.

The rooster in the first picture could be mistaken for a hen, if there were no hens to compare him to, except for the saddle feathers coming in. You can't see them in the picture, but you could in person...err..in chicken!

I hope this helps.

good deal, anything else i should know? i am excited bout getting new additions.

also which should i pick, cochin, buff orp, black sex link or australop roo?

See which one looks the coolest when you get there:lol: Also approach them and see what their temperment is.

I don't think anyone mentioned that you should look at the health of the birds. Make sure they have nice, shiney feathers. Clear eyes and nostrils. Check for lice and mites if you can. And remember to quarintine the new birds for a month before mixing them in with your established flock.

Good luck!
