Hi all, coop is more then 50% finished, so i figured i would go and pick up our chicks tommorrow with my little one (16mts old).
It is at a local agway, do i need to bring anything to bring them home in? or do you think they will supply a carrier?
thanks
ps
getting
2 b. rocks
2 ri reds
2 ameracundas.

I'm a newbie here, but from what I've read, just show up. They should supply you with a box of some sorts to take them home in. You may want to put an old bath towel in the bottom so the little fuzzy butts don't slide around too much. I'm also getting mine from my local Agway. From what they said this past weekend, they should be in at any time! Good luck to you:D

Different stores have different policies. You should give the store you are going to a call. One feed store I bought from last year insisted you use the box they provided (it was a nice little cardboard pet carrier box). The other feed stores I went to had a limited number of boxes available but preferred you bring your own. A shoe box works good. I put pine shavings in the bottom of my box last year but I like the towel idea. I think I will use a towel this year.

tipsydog its Millers agway in CS, i was talking with the owner, they get in a ton of chicks every year right around st pats day. Its in their back room, he gets 4-5 different breeds all pulletts but if you want ducks/geese/etc they can order them for you.
I dont think there is a minimum order #.
I do plan on calling them today just to make sure they have the varitities we want in and if i need a carrier.

What should i be on the look out for as far as picking out the chicks.

My feed store supplies boxes to bring the chicks home in. But the lady that I was talking to looked very happy when I mentioned I had a small dog carrier in my car all setup to bring my chicks home in.

So if you have something you can use, it's nice to be able to have it all setup and ready when you show up. Otherwise I wouldn't worry, they should have something for you to use.

Thanks. I'll stop at the one here in Wayne County. They told me there was a minimum I had to buy - 12 or 15! That's too many for me, maybe I can find someone to split them with. As far as what to look for - pullets! That's why I always hesitate to buy them from Agway and I go to hatcheries instead. My luck I'd wind up with all the Boys! Good luck picking them out! Post a picture when you get them
