Last night I put my 8 -10 week old rescued EE in a large enclosed run with my pigeons. I know, not ideal, but the best choice in this situation. I had left goldEE out there during the day before and the pigeons barely gave her a second glance, so I figured she'd be OK staying with them the entire night. Boy was I wrong!!! Woke this morning to the sound of a chicken screaming. Found that goldEE had wedged her head and shoulders part way through the wire fencing and was now unable to pull them back through. To make matters worse, there on the ground with her, viciously pecking at her flailing limbs were 3 of my pigeons!!! Mortified, I ran to her aide. Shooing away the pigeons, I removed her thrashing body from the fence and inspected her injuries. She has multiple pecking wounds that encompass her head, comb, face, feet and legs, with her legs and feet receiving most of the abuse!!! I took her in the house and cleaned the wounds. Checked her thoroughly for any hidden damage, etc (found nothing more) and applied antibacterial ointment to her wounds. Afterwards, I put her in a crate in a warm, quite room of my house and left her with a little chick starter and some water treated with Vet. Rx, vitamins and electrolytes. Did I do enough? Should I get some antibiotics to add to her water, just as a precaution? Anything??? I'm just sick over this. She's a rescue baby to begin with and then I, her supposed savior, go and practically feed her to the wolves. UGH!!! I'm going to make her some eggs and yogurt tonight if she's up for it. Is there ANYTHING else I could/should do for her??? All responses greatly appreciated!!! Thank You!!!
