My first pheasant pipped 2 days ago. He didn't progress at all past pipping, and 24 hrs later dead. I never heard a cheep from this one. Upon breaking open the egg this birds beak, and little wing feathers had become stuck to the edge of the egg. But, the membrane was well moist.
The 2nd pipped yesterday afternoon, and was progressing slowly last night when I went to sleep. About a hole the diameter of a dime. Also heard cheeping from this one. This morning there was no movement. The memrbane in the shell was dry and rubbery.
I have 7 more pheasant eggs and 6 turkey eggs that haven't pipped, which I fear may have drown.
My temps are good. But my humidity keeps jumping really high. I was at 60% all incubation, pipping jumped it to 85%, max 95%. I have added more vent holes to my incubator, homemade cooler. My water reservoir is a tall 5 oz. shot glass (same diameter as 1oz glass)! I don't have anything narrower that will hold enough water to keep from opening every few hours.
I've read that pheasants aren't the easiest things to hatch. And this is my first time ever incubating eggs of any sort. I thought I had done my homework, these results are disheartening to say the least. I feel terrible for bringing creatures into the world and not providing the correct environment. Next time around I will be using TX7s, I hope.
