Does anyone know where to get a few golden pheasant chicks or hatching eggs. I've called a few Pheasant farms and they are only shipping adults for the fall. I really want to get chicks to raise myself. I know Craigslist has them but they don't ship.
I would think now would be too late for any hatching eggs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Try Bill Groak in Carmel,or Frank Kunnumpurath in Lafeyette.

Thanks Tony!,

Would you happen to have their phone number or e-mail to contact? I can't seem to find how to contact them. Or the name of their farm or website?

Thanks so much!

I have this season's offspring available to ship from CA (when weather permits). F1 crosses of San Diego Zoo and wild-caught stock. Breeding records, banded and registered. You can PM me for more info. :) I also have zoo stock Lady Amherst (Chengdu Zoo x San Diego Zoo) available now.

Someone I talked with who visited a Chinese zoo a few years ago said the goldens and amhersts he saw there were crosses. He even showed me some pictures and they were far from pure! I don't think he went to Chengdu Zoo. You mentioned offering F1 crosses of San Diego Zoo and "wild caught" stock. Do you provide any paper work positively showing the "wild caught" birds were actually from the wild or from wild caught stock? I'm sure your birds are what you say they are, but I've been stung by several sellers who told me their birds were pure but when I got them they were mutts...

I consider these to be my F1 cross.

On the reds - My San Diego Zoo stock - line bred since 1989. My wild caught line (I call it) are descended from import stock from Landig Import 1988 and from Vaughn 1992 and also line bred. This is my first crossing of these two separate lines.

On the Amherst My SD Zoo stock, same as above, my Chengdu Zoo stock I purchased 2 years ago. This is my first crossing of these two separate lines.

Maybe I am incorrect calling this F1, but it seems correct to me. They are both pure lines of more than 5 generations, technically i could call it my own line but it would likely carry less weight in my opinion. There is no hybridization as far as I can tell and I trust where I acquired them fully. I am happy to go into detail of who they came from, how and where and so on - but I think it's improper to post names etc. on a public forum without consent. I do have the MDNR # for the imported Vaughn and have kept pedigree records of my breeding and included previous history given to me. We can no longer trace import bands before 1992 so that information is useless. All breeders are forced to put some trust in others and it's unfortunate that the only way to prove your worth is to provide as much info as possible. I wish there was copies of paperwork passed on throughout the years but there just wasn't. I am registering them so they will be more easily traceable for anyone who is willing to continue with a good breeding project and help preserve them.

I do not have original import papers - no one does. I have the next best thing, records and history. I have no problem explaining in detail their lineage and how i was lucky enough to get these birds - just PM me

So by line breeding, do you mean selective inbreeding? I also had the same question as Tony and am still not sure I understand. Are you saying you have some birds that are from wild caught stock that have never been bred with anything that is not from wild caught? It would be good if there were some paper work. I don't think those so dedicated to preserving them would want their work to be a secret, but maybe so... I'm sure you have great stock, I'm not questioning that, I've just been burned several times by some who have claimed wild caught stock only to receive birds (some from well known sellers) at high prices that were not pure when they arrived. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/line+breeding

Yes, selective inbreeding and yes, I have wild caught descendants that were not bred with other. As I said I have no problem giving that info - it's not secret. I'd just not feel right about posting it publicly on a forum and giving out detailed history for anyone to see. There are too many dishonest people to use specific breeders names, band #s and sources they found on the internet to claim they have something they don't. It's been done already here in CA by someone who I wouldn't name online either. It's not appropriate, but it isn't a secret now that his rep has finally caught up with him.
I prefer to weed those people out and can do that by privately discussing my breeding practices and the people I work with or have worked with to keep my lines pure.
I'm sorry you were taken by someone, the best thing to do is ask lots of questions and ask for lots of pictures before buying. Learn how to "spot" a mutt. No one can provide anything "official" as far as paperwork goes but you can sniff out a scam if they can't answer your questions or are inconsistent with their story. There are very few pure and that is difficult to find. Even some of the best lines in the US are normally hybridized to some degree.

So you bred F1 stock to wild caught, which also is F1 stock?Their offspring would be F2.Ok the F1 to wild caught threw me off but you explained it the way it should be.
