When I posted these guys 2 weeks ago I was told one was just a unique little chick because he was much blacker that the other 2 but now I’m starting to question if he/she even is the same breed as the others. The chick seems to be developing a different type of comb. Can anyone explain this? Could he/she just be a different gender?

The one in question:

Still looks like a Sebright to me, in spite of the single comb. :) When speaking of hatchery quality birds, it seems anything can pop up. It's not uncommon to find a Wyandotte with a single comb, either.

That's what i was thinking. Do you think that because of the unique color and single comb it could be some sort of accidental mix-breed?

Haha i knew he was special when i picked him out at TSC. He was the darkest and smallest one there and i just had to have him:love
No wonder, it's a cutie! :love You're very blessed with that one. :D
Sebrights can definitely be varied....just look at my batch of 6 from last year!

Hatchery bred chicks tend to vary from the standard of perfection. They aren't bred to be show birds and some aren't even typy enough to use as breeders. It doesn't diminish from their personality

Yeah. I also heard how barred rock colors are starting to make it harder to sex by color. very annoying especially since i just got my first 6 this year.:hmm
