One of our hens turned broody, so we decided to try our luck at letting her sit on some fertilized eggs that we got from the breeder we purchased our original pullets from. One survived... and, as luck would have it, is on his way to becoming a man. We are not allowed roosters within city limits, so we are looking to move him to a new home before he starts crowing. I am happy to transport him to you or meet somewhere safe to exchange.

If you still have your little man, I might be interested. I am still in the process of creating enough space for a flock (just have two girls right now, and only acquired them recently, very new to the whole thing, want a flock of about 6 or 8 ultimately) but after a run in with a hawk last week, I think a roo might be a good idea. I live in your neck of the woods and could come get him too, either way. I might need a couple weeks to get a place set up out here for him though, as I am just now starting to keep chickens. First chicken was a stray that insisted on staying, so I am kind of winging it. How old is he? Do you know when he will start crowing? I think it is a lovely sound, one of the reasons I moved out here to the country, to hear the chickens and the donkeys in the mornings. :) You can message me here...I guess they call it a conversation?

Do you have any pictures of him by chance? I need to convince one other person and a picture would help. And what is his temperament like?

Hi, Kimberly! He was hatched the day hurricane Harvey hit (and that is his name. We have two hens with male names thanks to giving naming rights to my 7-year-old) so he is about 4 1/2 months old. My understanding is they start at about 4-5 months old, so it should be right around the corner.

He is a good chicken, but still afraid of the other hens. I thought he would get bolder since he is already so much larger than the hens, but maybe that will come with the hormones. And, possibly with a new clutch that haven't been picking on him since birth. He seems nice, but he also runs from is, too. At least he isn't trying to attack us. Again, not really sure when those protective instincts kick in. No spurs, yet, so maybe when he has something to fight with?

I am going to try to upload a photo. I can try to get a better one, tomorrow after work that shows his size a bit better. He just seems HUGE to us!

I think huge is good. I want the hawks to know they won't be getting our girls. ;-) I bet he will be protective when he is the only boy around maybe? I don't know.

If we can take him, he will never be food. He will be cherished and loved until he dies an old, old king. Promise.
