Golf Balls?

In a post with pictures of eggs laid by hens I saw a guy had a golf ball by his eggs and the caption on the photo said "the golf ball trick worked!". I was wondering what this Golf Ball Trick was.

Hens like to lay eggs where other eggs have been laid.

The golf balls trick them into thinking an egg has already been laid there and so they do too.
