Good breeds for kids

Hi all! We’re looking to be first time chicken owners soon. Our coop isn’t huge, probably good for about 3-4 chickens, but we have a large run. Anyways, I want my young son to learn to help care for them with me so I’m trying to figure out which breeds would be best (I know every chickens different but I want a breed that’s overall more gentle) At first my heart was set on silkies but we want eggs and they aren’t the best layers. I’ve been looking into Easter Eggers now but am hoping to get other suggestions. Thanks!

Salmon Favorelle. Gentle giants that are friendly, docile, lay large eggs. They make a great family project and beautiful to look at.

We love Golden Comets! They are a hybrid chicken that lay a ton of eggs! I got eggs all winter long! They are extremely friendly and don’t mind being held. We have one who will run across the yard when I come out. My son showed them in 4-H last year because they were so friendly and easily handled. I would definitely recommend them for first time owners and for those with kids! This is our Golden Comet Darko visiting our dog through the window

My recommendation would be to get three or four, each being a different breed. It’s more fun for kids if they can tell them apart and name each one.

Silkies or pekins (cochin bantam). I'd reccomend the large fowl cochin but they get pretty big.

I’ve got one word for you- bielefelder. Even the adult roos are wonderful in my experience.
