Good brooder?

Good morning, chicken friends! My Barred Rock hen started laying six days ago. The first two were in the dirt, the third on the floor in the middle of the coop, and the last three in her nest - not in the nice nest box, but in a bale of hay. This morning, she is snuggled down in her nest (I can't even see her head) with no sign of moving. Does this mean she might be a good brooder, or is she just cold? (It was 40 this morning)
