Truth is, I don't pay much attention to brands. You can check the date on the bag. Mostly I smell the feed when I open it, to make sure it smells sweet and not musty or stale, and I look to make sure there are no clumps or signs of mold. I've never had to take a bag back -- this is just from reading on here.
Purina Start n Grow is probably the most common chick feed. I think some use a feed called Blue Seal and Dumor (Tractor Supply feed made by Purina). I'm sure there are other types. The most important factors are that the feed is fresh and stored correctly, and that is contains the right nutritional elements for proper growth and development.
