I am giving away my rooster this weekend. I had some very bad experiences with him, as he attacks everyone in sight. I am going to get a new chicken (most likey a hen), but if I DO get a roo, I would prefer him to be nice

I'm looking for breeds that are friendly and curious, lay lots of large eggs, and (preferable, but not necessary) do well in heat.
Any ideas?

Most breeds are very nice, it's the strain that makes them mean or flighty or whatever else undesirable.

I'd say either stay away from production-bred breeds or stay away from hatchery stock in general.

Lots of large eggs, do well in heat -

French Marans
Jersey Giants
Leghorns
Andalusians
Minorcas
Catalanas
Plymouth Rocks

To name a few. Those listed should normally be a well mannered rooster in example, but, bad breeding is easy to find. So, I say just watch out and do a little researching. But, chances are, as long as you keep from breeds like production-bred Rhode Island Reds, you'll likely be fine.
