Good Eggs?

I was wondering if someone can tell me how long an egg will stay "good" during summer and winter? My hens are laying at different times of the day and I think that I am not getting some until the following day because they lay so late.

Are you asking about table eggs or hatching eggs?

In the winter, it will be hard to prevent them from freezing if you live up north and the eggs are left outside all day.
frozen eggs can be eaten, if they aren't cracked and dirty. Some people have had luck hatching eggs that have gotten cold but not frozen.

In the summer, as long as they aren't exposed to 80*+ temps for extended periods they should be good for eating and hatching shouldn't be a problem..since a hen is way warmer than that...LOL

I am not sure how long they stay "fresh" but I know it is wise to check for eggs at least twice each if not more frequently. Given that advice, most eggs are layed by noon (but not all).

Everyone else has pretty much already answered your question. But I tend to collect eggs once a day when the temp is anywhere between 90-35 degrees. When it gets close to freezing I try to collect in the morning, noon, and right before dark. When it gets close to 95 degrees (or higher) I will try to collect in the morning and noon (the hottest time of day), and try to in late evening (but if I don't I make sure they are gathered in early morning). I have noticed with my hens that most of the time in the summer hens lay more often in mornings and late evening.
