I recently had the urge to raise some chickens after many years. Local bylaws say that we can have 10 chickens but no roosters..... So naturally I ordered 25 Buff Orpingtons today... lol
We live in an area where the houses are fairly private and are all on 2 acre lots and the minimum chick order was 25.
Our plan is to keep 6 for layers and the rest we will split with the kids for eating.
If all goes well this year we will hopefully fine tune the process next year with different breeds.
Growing up we had chickens, geese and turkeys but that was long ago and I hope to tap into the knowledge of the folks on this board.
