I am so glad to be a part of this forum. I am happy to find a community where people care for their animals. I came here looking for an answer about painkillers for my rooster. Last night a raccoon got into the pen and I am unsure if my rooster lost an eye :( they are my pets and I love them..too see him like that breaks my heart just imagining the suffering he is going through but I don't have the heart to kill him. I am saddened to think that if he continues like this it will be the most humane thing to do.

I don't know anything about over-the-counter painkillers for your boy. If you can, take your rooster to a vet. If he loses an eye, he can still live a good life. Animals adapt to circumstances that people consider handicaps.

Hope you are able to care for him and protect him from further attacks. I once left a coop door open and three hens were killed overnight. I now double lock all the doors and added hardware cloth to all the runs so predators would have a much harder time getting in.

Wishing the best for you and your boy. Hope BYC is helpful for you; welcome.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I have a hen recovering from severe eye damage and she is blind in that eye and adapting well to her handicap. If he can survive his injury and looses the eye, he will be okay.

I suggest starting a thread in the ER forum with lots of very clear pictures of his injuries and you will get advice on treatment for him. The basics for recovery from such an attack are keeping him warm, keeping him hydrated, making sure the injuries have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and keeping them clean, supporting him with very nutritious food and giving him some electrolytes in a separate waterer along with just plain, clean water to drink.
Good luck with your poor boy.
