good feeds during molt

I read the article and I agree.

I always feed black seed sunflowers and dry cat food during the molt.

Both of these items are expensive to feed to poultry so to help with costs I stop feeding scratch grain in the morning like I normally do. I give mostly sunflower seeds and enough cat food in which I am sure most of my hens have gotten several kernals.

They always have their lay mesh available 24/7.

I feed the scratch for two reasons.

1. I throw it around every inch of the run. It keeps the hens busy during the day scratching and searching for the grains. During the winter when it is too cold or there is snow on the ground I also through the scratch grain on the coop floor so they have something to keep them busy as well.
2. I like the orange color of the egg yolks.
