Good layer chicks for Maine location

We're looking to add to our laying flock in March/April, with the view toward creating a uniform flock within a year. We need about a dozen chicks and one cockerel, preferably all the same breed. We're thinking about heritage breeds but don't want to spend a fortune and thought of Dominiques as a possibility, having read they're excellent layers. We are in Hancock County but would be willing to travel an hour or so.
