Hiya, and welcome to BYC!

We're in Wisconsin and raise/breed silkies, but our set-up is way different than you need in SC.

I will however mention, silkies are prone to vitamin deficiencies, so we keep the treats way down and supplement them or their feed with vitamins. All chicks and chickens here are on Kalmbach's All Flock, and scratch is Kalmbach's Henhouse Reserve. For the hens, they get a dish of oyster shell.

Once grown, they can't fly for squat and half the time can't see so are helpless to predators. Just make sure where you have them, they are safe and not a target.

Hey there, they do well but my yard provides a lot of shade and we have a nice ocean breeze.

Excellent. I moved here from New England a bought 6-acres with only shade on one acre - the opposite side of where the house and chickens are. Artificial shade is just not as good
