No seriously, am a new member and have been reading posts by others. Found your site very informative. I have 4 Rhodi hens and 1 Rooster. They started out as hubbies and somehow ended up with me.

Love my rooster "Lucky" (lucky to have so many hens to himself!) I never knew a rooster could be so nice. He follows me like a puppy, eats out of my hand, greets me every morning and allows me to pet him and handle him. But his is fierce with other animals that come in the yard. He is roughly 7 lbs and the local cats are terrified of him.

Seems that having city chickens is becoming contagious. My new neighbors have inquired on mine and are building a coop to start their own and recently had someones hen from down the street pecking at my front door looking for handouts.

Lately in the neighborhood we have been seeing a lot of crows, including in the trees in my backyard. Which now we have noticed mited on our hens. I have a natural store bought treatment for them but I was hoping someone has a receipe for a homemade natural treatment for organic raised chickens. I have DE but find it not as effective as I would like it to be.

Any information would be appreciated.

My chickies dust bathe in the fire pit. The ashes keep the mites from becoming an issue.

!! Wood ash helps, but doesn't cure the problem, sorry I'm not sure on other treatments, just don't use coal ash it encourages mites (particularly Scaly Leg)

a good thing about crows is that they will give the alarm if hawks are about, and sometimes they will even mob hawks and drive them away. Mites could come from birds like sparrows etc. so I wouldn't blame crows for all of it.
