Welcome to BYC. Sometimes when folks are left with just one bird they decide to keep it as a house pet. Humans become it's flock. You may want to check out the thread "Show us your house ducks." He looks very content to me.

PS there is also a thread called "people with house chickens." A few brave souls also have a house goose.
