I just wanted to introduce myself
I have seven absolutely beautiful hens that just moved in yesterday! they are a birthday gift from my husband and I could not be happier!
I have 2 RI Reds (just like me I am a redhead from RI so these are of course my favorite!) 2 leghorns, 1 ameraucana, 1 buff orpington and 1 mixed chicken I am not sure about
I can not imagine anything more serene and beautiful than watching them make themselves at home in my yard.
we have a coop and a run but they can pretty much have free run of a very large secure yard. My husband is making 2 chicken tractors for the other parts of our yard.
I am hoping this will be win win as I do a LOT of vegetable gardening and will appreciate the help!
I also have two pit bulls that need some careful introduction here as they are already coming unglued about these clucking and the smell of these beauties on us is driving them nuts! We are able to keep them apart easily due to very secure fencing but if you have any tips on dogs and chickens please feel free. I am not going to test this by letting them meet there is no point in stressing my flock with the sight of excited dogs (they are good dogs btw and easily trained) . My dogs are never unsupervised and while they have free run of most of our yard they will not have free run where the chickens are. I just want them to mellow out about them and figure this will take time.
anyway I am pleased to find this board and am off to wander around and gleen all this wonderful information
pleased to meet you and thanks for being here!
