One Coucou is wandering around with sixteen chicks, mainly hers but some incubator additions. Another is sitting on eight eggs in the woodshed; this is a day's laying that she's appropriated. As a reward I put a further six Limousin eggs under her. The thing with these hens is there's no warning of going broody beforehand - they'll find a clutch and sit, no matter whose eggs. And you can move them too: if in the main coop they'll go into a smaller one and, if that's occupied, I've a large dog cage which is ideal for hen, box, food and drink, and leg-room. They don't even blink...I think they're brilliant mothers.
