Over the weekend we became parents again
Quite funny really, I moved the 3wo into the vegetable patch to have a scratch.
They love it in there anyway went back up to shed to hear what I thought was a chick I'd missed but no there was a fresh chick hatched (uh oh need another brooder)
All 6 chicks hatched woo hoo
Acquired some guinea fowl from wife's customer today so going to try incubate these eggs

& now the sad
We had one of our girls attacked the other day by neighbours ridgeback
Unfortunately it paid another visit today & killed our beautiful rooster
Did I let him know too
Law of farmers land next time

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Oh I am so sorry for the loss of your rooster!

He was gorgeous. I hope your heavy heart can heal soon. You need to do something about the neighbors dog. If the neighbor won't keep his dog contained, maybe a gun is in order on your part.

Congrats on the great hatch! Cute little babies!

Enjoy your little cutie pies and we do welcome you to our flock!

I'm sorry about your rooster and hen!

Congratulations on the chicks, though! They're cute little things.

So sorry you lost your rooster. I wouldn't want to see a Ridgeback roaming the neighborhood even without livestock. The ones I have known of had major social issues. What a beautiful rooster he was. People almost never take responsibility for their dogs. Glad you joined the flock, I hope better days are ahead minus the dog.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry for the loss of your rooster. It's always sad to lose one of our flock. Congratulations on the successful hatch.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hello everyone I'm fairly new to BYC about 2 weeks and new to chickens. I'm having problem trying to figure out what may be wrong with one of them. She usually is up and about but she's been sitting with her tail down. Today she is not eating much. Here are couple pictures I checked her crop massaged it doesn't seem to be anything stuck. Help please.!!

If she has stopped eating and drinking, it is possible she has coccidiosis. They go off their feed and water, many times there is blood in the poop. The sit all fluffed up depressed looking. If you feel this is the case, she will need some Corid (amprolium) from the feed store. Follow the instructions on the bottle for mixing. It is used for 5 to 7 days.

You can also post this in our emergency section for more input as well...https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

Good luck and I hope you can get her back to good health soon.
