I am new to selling meat chickens and I am having trouble coming up with a price for the birds by pound. I have Cornish X roosters and most are around 7-8 pounds. They have been free-ranging outside in the fresh grass all day, everyday since they were chicks. At night, they are housed in a spacious, clean coop with plenty of fresh water and food. In total, I've spent over twelve dollars a bird and I only have 10 out of the 12 I originally bought. I am selling locally to a friend of the family and want to give him a reasonable price, but still make some money. What is a good price for local, free-range chickens?

You can do a google search of pastured chicken etc and see what comes up in your area. I am in an area where people believe in getting local food. I see prices from $4.00/lb to 6.50/lb. Those are off farm prices. More expensive at the farmer's markets.
