I had 2 pullets lay gooey eggs today. The shells weren't hard at all. Could this be because maybe they didn't eat enough of their layer feed with the calcium?

Have a look here for possible causes: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/common-egg-quality-problems

Thanks, sumi! It does help. My girls have just started laying so that is probably why. This morning we found an egg that was only half gooey

Ahh, funky new layer eggs. I've seen some interesting "practice" eggs from my new girls too. Good news is they usually get the hang of it within the first dozen
