Will an Easter egger roo try to mate with a silkie hen? and would the egg be to big for the silkie hen to lay? We just hatched and purchased our first chickies and thinking we have a few roos and hens on our hands and want to be prepared for when they are bigger. Like, do they need to have seperate coops or can they live together? I know some roos will have to go but we'll deal with that later. (As my son can't even imagine that right now)

If the roo is in there with her then chances are he will try to mate with her. As far as the egg size that's up to the hen. I would be more concerned that a large roo will hurt the Silkie.

The egg size will not change with the size of the roo.I agree with previous poster I would more worry about the actual mating as the roo is so big compared to the hen.
I just purchased banties this year myself and will probably be keeping them seperate from the larger flock if I see them trying to mate the smaller hens.
ETA: I have a friend who has 2 OEGB and they mingle with the big flock all spring/summer/fall without a problem.
