Hello, my pet goose started coughing and sneezing around one week ago. It started out as just a cough here and there, not too bad so I thought she would just get better on her own but this morning she has been coughing and sneezing into her water bowl nonstop. She is in a warm and dry area with clean bedding. I have noticed she is eating her straw bedding lately and I cannot get her to stop. I am thinking the straw is probably getting stuck in her throat but I am not sure what to do. I have moved her inside away from the straw and she has an appointment to see a local vet today but the vet is not experienced with geese. She has not been eating much either.

So I did not end up going to the vet yesterday with her. I brought her inside and after an hour or 2 the coughing stopped entirely so I cancelled the vet appointment. Since then I have been trying to keep her off the straw bedding and have only heard her cough probably twice. I am going to change her bedding today to pine shavings and see if that helps. Yes, she has access to both grit and water. She is also in with another goose and a duck and they both seem fine with no coughing. She is eating more today so hopefully getting better. Has anyone else had a problem with geese eating their bedding? She is just constantly digging around in the straw eating it.
