OK what can I mix in with my goose's pellets besides cracked corn once winter hits? Is their anything else I can feed them also? They are now about 8-9 weeks old. Thanks
Not something to mix, but you can have side oats for poultry. Oats, when in contact with water, will go bad more quickly than most other ingredients in feeds, which is the reason why it might be better to have it on the side. I don't handle oats myself but occasionally buy Nutrena's oats for poultry for my geese.
I sprout Barly when I can get it whole wheat and a little corn in the winter. Sprouts are about 50% of there diet year round I dont have much you could call pasture here, I stopped taking fodder all the way to grass they just picked at it and wasted about 50%. I add all there Niacin and vitamins to the spouts 12 hours before feeding it in the morning. They have duck pellets available to them 24/7. But morning is sprout time and there favorite time of day.
That being said the system I set up takes me 5 min 2 times a day. and a shower I dont use. you only have a couple geese you could do it on a smaller scale. Day 4 for sprouting is the perfect time to feed fresh. The grains have turned starch into natural sugar.
My system is really easy I have 4 (2 1/2) gallon buckets with drilled holes in the bottom and one soaking bucket. Left is the grain in for its 12 pluss hour soak just water and a little bleach, Above it is day 2, going right is day 3, Front right is tomorrows breakfast it has flax seed and Breweres yeast mixed in it today, when there molting I add fish oil. For my older geese I will add some shelled sunflower and safflower seeds.
Hay. When all the grass dies back give them some hay as a substitute. Mine get whatever I have for the horses. Fine stem alfalfa is their favorite followed closely by brome.
