Goose thread.

I got my geese on a whim, really. I had been at the local feed store, and there was a brooder full of Egyptian and American Buff goslings on a Friday. I already had chickens and ducks, and I didn't need more poultry.

When I went back the next Monday, there were only two fuzzy, adorable goslings alone in a big brooder. How could I leave them there?

I thought I had a goose and a gander. When Gussie laid her first clutch of eggs the next spring, Golly would vigorously defend the nest and Gussie. Some days later, Golly also produced her own eggs. Which is just as well, because what would I do with 18 American Buff geese?

I LOVE the goose girls. They look so stately and regal -- and are absolute goofballs. They get excited over every motorcycle that drives past, will posture toward any single chicken but run like crazy if one challenges them, like to walk up behind the runner ducks and march them parade style across the yard, and sometimes get zoomies for no apparent reason.

I too got mine on a whim.
My feed store had a mixed bin of ducks and geese. The two gray goslings were just too cute to pass up. We had been there the day before and got 4 ducklings, but said we wouldn’t get geese. Geese are mean after all. 🙄
Well next day we were back and I couldn’t resist those faces! Hubby gave the ok and I said I’d love them enough to keep them friendly. Haha.
We also took home another duckling that had an eye issue. We felt too bad for it to leave it there. Most everyone had pasty butt too, so they needed some extra tlc.

My geese will be for entertainment and hopefully protect the ducks. Right now my turkeys are my flock protectors, but they can’t be everywhere at once, so hopefully they can split the work load😉

Here are my 2 geese. They are 10 weeks apart though.
