Goose Vs. Fox

Would a goose be an effective guard against a fox and if so wich one and what ratio of geese would i need

Hmm. maybe a large flock with a few brave big ganders would try to defend themselves. but mine just slip into the pond.

Like the other poster said, maybe a flock of them. I had a Chinese gander that was mean and huge. Something nabbed him in the middle of the day, and only left like 2 feathers behind. He was a nasty monster, so I didn't waste any tears there!

I have a trio of African geese; they have a big pen that I put them in for the night but a fox still managed to get in and nearly killed one of my geese. If it wasn’t for their loud yelling that woke me up she wouldn’t be here today. I woke up ran down the stairs, got my 22 rifle ran out the door and called Evie (my Black and Tan coonhound/ Rottweiler) she was enough to get the fox to start running for safety, luckily the goose was so big and heavy that the fox couldn’t get away fast enough so he stopped dragging it by the neck and let it go. The fox got away but hasn’t been back, so from what I have seen I would say that geese aren’t really all that good at protecting themselves from foxes unless they can slip off into a large pond maybe.

In the night the geese would be sleeping and likely be as easy prey as the chickens. Then what the others said.

i would vote no, old neighbors had some kind of huge (like big enough to chase me on my horse huge) Russian geese and their scottie killed all of them (good dog Mctavish!)
Not sure anything short of a LGD would work at night. Good luck.

I would say yes! My flock of Chinese/Canadian ganders drove away all predators but one died of a raccoon but when I saw the raccoon all was left of the coon was a carcass and a bunch of full geese.

Another story on my geese is that they protected my house. One night I was in my room reading a book when I heard a rattling at the front door, then I heard the honking geese and a human yell. I ran out side with my little brother behind me and saw a puddle of blood and a man running down the drive way with 3 geese chasing him. I called the police and they chased the man but never caught him.
Moral of the story : Get All Ganders!

If your just driving away foxes you might consider a LGD, Emu, LLama,or a Donkey
