Gopher Problems yuck

I don't know if you have heard of Jerry Baker but I have tried many of his tricks and the work. He says to insert sticks of unwrapped juicy fruit gum into slits of gofer or mole runs. The eat it and can't pass it. They then turn into plant food.

we have pocket gophers too. I won't use poison since a chicken would inevitably eat it.......
So I get gopher snakes from a friend who works over at animal control. People call A.C. to have them removed from sheds/garages since they are often mistaken for rattlesnakes. I just pick them up near their head (they are not aggressive) and aim them towards a gopher hole. They rocket right in like a homing missile.

They also sell these plastic tubes that you insert batteries in. They make some kind of noise and you insert them in the ground as
deep as they are (about 6 or 8 in). The sound transmits underground and keeps gophers, groundhogs and other such animals away.
I used them in my backyard because the groundhogs were eating my flowers and some vegetables. I did not want to hurt them or poison them either. I actually enjoy watching them- just not eating my stuff. They actually worked very well. You might have to by a couple because I believe one is good for like 15 feet or so. They sell them at Home Depot or Lowes. Hope that helps.

Lawnchair, pickaxe with a mattock head, beer.

Clear the dirt from your mole/gopher hills. Don't stamp it back down. Open a beer, sit in the lawn chair and wait. When the dirt mound starts piling up, quietly and softly walk over to the active mound, mattock in hand, swing with all your might aiming for a spot 3" on the far side of the mound and pull back on the mattock once it has sunk home, flipping said mole/gopher out of the hole. Go "boppity, boppity, boppity" on said mole/gopher's head with the end of the mattock. High five your neighbor, and open another beer to repeat the process. Works well for me.

Ok here's my update.

Didn't find the tablets and SIL doesn't remember exactly what they are called.
What I DID find was Sure Stop Gopher Killer. Tested the front yard first. No new mounds. hmmm
We'll see what tomorrow brings.
GUM! I had heard that years ago, but didn't need to use it. I knew it was something simple. THANK YOU for the reminder!!!!
Hubby was a little against another dog digging up the yard and I think my Corso would be a little upset if I kenneled her and let another run her turf. OK so I thought it might actually be fun, but ok.
Never P off the guy that builds your coops.
Hubby wins this one.
I'm going to try the gum in the back. I'll pick some up tomorrow. I' feel a little better about no poison where kids and animals are more likely to be.

BTW.........clerk at Home Depot said there must be a lot of gophers this year. She said she had one customer buying everything they sold and an axe! LOL........She said he was really ranting about his gopher problem. She also said that the reason so many products were not on the shelf was because people had been showing up all week looking for things to get rid of the little buggers.

I'm thinking if nothing else I can post for a support group and leave fliers at HD!

Decided I would let you all know how this went. Front yard was done with Juicyfruit and back yard with gopher bait.

Juicyfruit hands down!
